The announcement of a contract extension between Airbus and Magellan Aerospace (UK) is considered as a move that should foster the North Wales sites.

The deal will realize the supply of aluminium and titanium structural wing components from Magellan UK’s facilities throughout Europe and India.
The aerospace systems and component manufacturer, Magellan has sites on Deeside and in Llay, Wrexham, where 350 staffs are employed.
The deal includes precision machined details and assemblies for use on the Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft, whose wings are assembled at Airbus Broughton in Flintshire.
However, as of yet no parties have revealed the details on the value or length of the contract extension.
Phillip C. Underwood, President and CEO of Magellan said: “This scope of work with Airbus demonstrates our commitment to align with our customer’s strategy through operational efficiency and continuous improvement.”
"The long-term nature of the contract will allow Magellan to make infrastructure adjustments in our European and Indian facilities to ensure that we can offer our customer a competitive and reliable source during the challenging years to come as the commercial aircraft sector recovers.”
In 2020, Magellan consulted for 240 lay-offs in North Wales as the pandemic struck hard the aviation industry, whereas, this spring they secured planning to expand the Llay site and create 120 jobs.
