
According to the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), primary aluminium production in Africa grew 5,000 tonnes or 3.85 per cent month-on-month to come in at 135,000 tonnes in July 2021. A month ago, in June, primary aluminium output in Africa was 130,000 tonnes, down by 6,000 tonnes or 4.41 per cent from 136,000 tonnes in May.

On a year-on-year calculation, Africa’s primary aluminium production in July stood flat, found IAI.
In the first seven months of the year, primary aluminium production in Africa totalled 916,000 tonnes, down by 2.45 per cent or 23,000 tonnes from 939,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
The world primary aluminium production in July stood at 5.747 million tonnes, which reflected an increase of 3.4 per cent from 5.558 million tonnes in June. On a year-on-year basis, the output edged 5.20 per cent higher than 5.463 million tonnes.
Total production from January to July 2021 amounted to 39.284 million tonnes, 4.62 per cent more than 37.548 million tonnes during the corresponding period of last year.
