
According to the International Aluminium Institute data, primary aluminium production in Africa during the second quarter of 2023 totalled 397,000 tonnes, up by 5,000 tonnes or 1.28 per cent from 392,000 tonnes in Q1. But the daily average output in Q2 remained restrained sequentially at 13,100 tonnes.

On a year-on-year calculaton, the quarterly production of primary aluminium in Africa during Q2 edged a fall of 1.98 per cent from 405,000 tonnes. Daily output also dipped by 300 tonnes from 13,400 tonnes.
In June 2023, Africa’s primary aluminium output was 132,000 tonnes, down from the previous month as well as the year. On a month-on-month calculation, the output in June declined by 2.94 per cent from 136,000 tonnes, and on a year-on-year basis, it dropped by 2.22 per cent from 135,000 tonnes.
From January to June 2023, Africa produced 789,000 tonnes of primary aluminium versus 802,000 tonnes a year ago. That reflected a year-on-year fall of 1.62 per cent in Africa’s H1 aluminium production.
World primary aluminium production in the June quarter was recorded at 17.259 million tonnes – 1.80 per cent higher than 16.953 million tonnes in Q1 and 1.06 per cent more than 17.078 million tonnes a year earlier.
