
Africa’s primary aluminium production totalled 138,000 tonnes in October 2019, a decrease of 3.5% from 143,000 tonnes in October 2018, according to the latest data showed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) on Wednesday, November 20. The output was up 2.99% from 134,000 tonnes in September, but down 0.72% from 139,000 tonnes in August.

Aluminium production in the first ten months of 2019 was down 1.37% year-on-year. Africa produced 1.371 million tonnes of aluminium in January-October as compared to 1.390 million tonnes in January-October 2018.
Primary aluminium production in Africa stood at 1.668 million tonnes in 2018, slightly down from 1.679 million tonnes in 2017, IAI data showed.
Global primary aluminium production stood at 5.392 million tonnes in October, with a year-on-year drop of 1.79%. The output inched up by 3.26% month-on-month. Primary aluminium production came in at 53.039 million tonnes in the first ten months of 2019 as compared to 53.513 million tonnes in the first ten months of 2018. This records a slip of 0.89% year-on-year.
