The British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA) reported that aerosol industry in UK exceeded expectations in 2020 despite the COVID-19 challenges. Aerosol production was above 1.5 billion units, down by 1.3% down on 2019.
On the categories wise, production for hard surface cleaners stood at above 50 million units in 2020, up by 255% from 14 million in 2019. Veterinary products output grew by 170% while household product filling witnessed a general increase due to pandemic.

The demand for insecticides rose due to work from home culture. This category increased by 40%, said BAMA.
The sales of hairspray sales declined by nearly 5% while other cosmetic products, such as suntan and bronzing sprays reduced by two-thirds. “There was an even bigger reduction for novelty products, which include silly strings and glitter sprays (commonly used for parties); the segment reduced to a quarter of 2019’s output,” worldaerosols.com reported.
Body sprays production came in at 353 million units, an increase of 7.6%.
UK aerosol manufacturers continue to export to the EU and around the world. BAMA expects same growth in the coming years, following new trade deals by the UK Government.
