The International Organization of Aluminum Aerosol Container Manufacturers (AEROBAL) reported 1.7 percent decline in global deliveries of aluminium aerosol cans in 2020 despite the corona pandemic.
“With a considerable total production of roughly 5.7 billion aluminum aerosol cans, the industry was only slightly below the record results of the past few years,” AEROBAL said.

AEROBAL Secretary General Gregor Spengler stated: “Especially in this crisis situation, the advantages of aluminum aerosol cans as packaging material have once again come into their own. Their outstanding safety and reliability, paired with excellent functionality and the exceptionally high hygiene standards, which are of course even more important in times of pandemics, have paid off. Together with the efficiency and flexibility of our member companies, this has ensured that we have come relatively well through the difficult last year compared to other industries."
The shipments of other personal care items and hair care products also declined. Since consumers were less on the go and going out, deodorants and perfumes, body, hair care and cosmetic products were less used.
“The uncertainty among consumers and various travel restrictions also caused the number of holiday trips to collapse dramatically, which also explains the noticeable decline in demand on the market for sunscreens and similar products.”
On the other hand, disinfection and hygiene products saw a noticeable increase in demand due to COVID. The demand for household products and similar applications also increased.
