Activated alumina continues to play an important role in industrial gas drying as manufacturers across sectors such as petrochemicals, electronics, pharmaceuticals and general manufacturing look for more reliable ways to remove moisture from process gases.

Shanghai Joozhou New Materials Co., Ltd. said its activated alumina products are designed for applications where low moisture levels are needed to help reduce equipment corrosion, protect production systems and improve operating efficiency.

According to the company, activated alumina is used in compressed air systems, air separation units and natural gas processing, where conventional cooling and mechanical separation alone cannot achieve the low moisture levels required for sensitive industrial operations. The material adsorbs water vapour through its porous structure and is commonly used in pressure swing adsorption (PSA) and thermal swing adsorption (TSA) systems.

Joozhou said its activated alumina is manufactured to provide a specific surface area of more than 300 square metres per gram, combining high moisture adsorption capacity with improved mechanical strength and thermal stability. The company said its activated alumina is designed to provide high crush strength, low attrition and good thermal stability. According to Joozhou, these properties help reduce dust formation, preserve the integrity of the adsorption bed and maintain low pressure drops during operation.

The company added that its activated alumina is used in compressed air dryers capable of achieving pressure dew points of -40°C to -70°C. Other applications include cryogenic air separation plants, natural gas dehydration, liquid hydrocarbon drying, transformer oil treatment and refrigerant processing. According to Joozhou, product series including JZ-K2 (High-Capacity Activated Alumina)  and JZ-K3 (Rapid-Regeneration Activated Alumina) are designed to reduce heat requirements during thermal desorption and speed up moisture release in heatless desiccant dryers.
