In the metallurgy industry, waste slag frequently contains valuable materials in low concentrations. Large areas of valuable land are used to house reservoirs containing hazardous waste. SINTEF, a research organization, now want to use hydrogen to convert this waste into a resource. SINTEF headquartered in Trondheim, Norway, is one of Europe's largest independent research organisations. It was founded in 1950 that conducts contract research and development projects. The world intensely needs metals, and realizing the so-called green transition depends on obtaining both the scarcer metals and those for which we have a plentiful supply. Nevertheless, when metals are recovered from minerals, it often ends with waste by-products. In addition, this waste may have significant environmental and...

Aluminium is not just another metal anymore. It is one of the industry's most widely used and accepted materials. From technology to architecture, aluminium can be found almost everywhere. The Jakarta-based architecture studio, GeTs Architects has designed a modern home partially covered in perforated laser-cut aluminium panels. The home, known as "GolFN," is distinguished by its patterned laser-cut screen, which shields inhabitants from glaring sunshine and torrential downpours while simultaneously enabling them to take in views of the nearby golf course and Mount Salak. The entry to the home is accessible from the right side of the building through an open ramp with a partially transparent laser-cut volume above. Due to the building's east orientation, GeTs Architects integrated...

According to the US Geological Survey, the United States' monthly production of primary aluminium in September 2022 stood restrained month-on-month at 61,000 tonnes. In contrast, daily average output edged 40 per cent higher at 2,020 tonnes versus 1,980 tonnes in August. On a year-on-year basis, monthly production in September registered a 15.28 per cent or 11,000 tonnes downfall from 72,000 tonnes, and daily output plunged 370 tonnes or 15.48 per cent from 2,390 tonnes. In September, total aluminium recovered from scrap was 280,000 tonnes, down by 15,000 tonnes or 5.08 per cent from 295,000 tonnes a month ago but 8,000 tonnes or 2.94 per cent higher than 272,000 tonnes a year earlier. Of this, 152,000 tonnes of aluminium was recovered from new scrap and 128,000 tonnes from old scrap. The...

New Zealand’s Clutha District Council has introduced a trial to recycle tetra pack cartoons accumulated in the area to convert them into building materials for the construction sector. A tetra pack is formed with layers of cardboard, plastic and aluminium, which means the recycling drive might yield enigmatic results for the district. Tetra packs are usually applied in the beverage or food packaging industry, primarily focusing on liquid supplies. Though their construct is an amalgamation of paper, plastic and aluminium, recycling a tetra pack is more complicated than it seems. Most of the time, recycling tetra pack requires initial sorting, separation and peeling before being put through the recycling process to extract the individual materials. They are also known as liquid paper board...

The Australian hydrous kaolin producer and exploration company Suvo Strategic Minerals has finally completed the acquisition of a 26 per cent stake in Dingo, an Australian-owned business that plans to make high-purity alumina (HPA) using recycled feedstock. Through a private placement of 220,000 fully paid ordinary shares at an issue price of $1 per share, the firm purchased Dingo for a total of $220,000. “Australia’s Federal Government recently added HPA to the critical minerals list as part of the 2022 Critical Minerals Strategy, citing broad-ranging economic and strategic importance. The global demand for HPA in powder form is expected to grow to 187,000 tonnes per annum by 2028, this growth is likely to be stemmed by supply limitations leading to a potential spike in prices as supply...
