The third quarter brought a clear improvement in global alumina production. It did not, however, bring production back to the level recorded a year earlier. Global alumina output has reached 114.625 million tonnes in the first nine months of 2026, down 330,000 tonnes or 0.29% (114.955 million tonnes in 2025) year-on-year. China's estimated production increased, but declines across most other reporting regions erased that gain. The quarterly sequence reveals how the production gap has developed. In the July to September 2026 quarter, alumina output reached 39.396 million tonnes, an increase of 5.54% over the preceding quarter. Yet the same quarter in 2025 had delivered 39.675 million tonnes. The latest production total was therefore 279,000 tonnes lower Y-o-Y. The first quarter of 2026...

Volkswagen Group's Slovakia site is one of the first units to enrol in the Aluminium Closed Loop project, which includes recycling aluminium stamping offcuts from press shops that come back to the aluminium roll suppliers. These aluminium offcuts are then subjected to reform, after which the actual metal can be extracted for re-production without any stain on the quality. Moreover, using secondary aluminium is cost-effective and saves almost 95 per cent of energy than the production of primary aluminium from bauxite. The Bratislava plant in Slovakia is the creator of Audi Q7 and Q8 body parts with the help high-pressure hydraulic press. This sustainable technique with which the company manages carbon emissions is extraordinary, and this planned loop is an example of a better future with...

MH-47G Chinook helicopters at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, USA, were fitted with two 3D printed cargo links for ongoing flight testing. As part of the National Center for Defence Manufacturing and Machining's (NCDMM) AMNOW initiative, the cargo links are made of a high-strength aluminium alloy 7A77. The MH-47G bears a striking resemblance with the Boeings' flagship CH47 Chinook twin rotor helicopter, with a bit of upgrade. The use of aluminium alloys in making aerospace components is essential because of their negligible weight and corrosion resistance properties. The AMNOW programme was founded in 2019 by NCDMM and partners, focusing mainly on the inclusion of AM technology into the prevailing U.S army supply chain. These cargo links will be the first army-instigated in-house metal...

Recycling is proven to be more of a need than a cause for concern in the socio-economic climate of today when the world is buzzing with issues like a growing global population, rising carbon emissions, rising energy expenses, and a scarcity of feedstock. And aluminium as a metal is considered to be 100 per cent recyclable and also maintains its original purity throughout recycling is aluminium. To begin with, Hydro’s latest “Green Financing Framework" enables Hydro to offer green financial products and financing tools associated with its sustainability goals and initiatives. As part of its most recent recycling campaign, the German grocery chain Aldi debuted its ongoing "reverse vending machine" trial for the second time in an Irish shop in North Cork. Customers can now easily recycle...

As of now, the inventories in July have shrunk by 161,000 tonnes in comparison with the same period last year. The ingot social inventory has suddenly begun declining in July. Delayed arrivals and shipments added with transportation stagnancy due to the pandemic are gradually cutting down the ingot volume in Wuxi. While in Gongyi, the main issue seems to be the intake by local consumers which is heightening regional...

The primary aluminium industry witnessed a lot of significant incidents this week. From the LME aluminium price opening the week with an escalation to the news of Rio Tinto resolving tax disputes with the Australian taxation office, the metal market as a whole had been going through lots of ups and downs. To begin with Ford Motor Company and Rio Tinto are establishing a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together to create supply chains for batteries and low-carbon components used in Ford cars that are more secure and sustainable. Aditya Aluminium, a subsidiary of Hindalco that runs a smelter and power plant complex at Lapanga in Sambalpur, had been given the...
