The third quarter brought a clear improvement in global alumina production. It did not, however, bring production back to the level recorded a year earlier. Global alumina output has reached 114.625 million tonnes in the first nine months of 2026, down 330,000 tonnes or 0.29% (114.955 million tonnes in 2025) year-on-year. China's estimated production increased, but declines across most other reporting regions erased that gain. The quarterly sequence reveals how the production gap has developed. In the July to September 2026 quarter, alumina output reached 39.396 million tonnes, an increase of 5.54% over the preceding quarter. Yet the same quarter in 2025 had delivered 39.675 million tonnes. The latest production total was therefore 279,000 tonnes lower Y-o-Y. The first quarter of 2026...
Century Aluminum Company reported stronger financial results for the third quarter of 2026, as the restart of Line 2 at its Grundartangi facility in Iceland helped increase aluminium shipments, net sales and profitability. The company's net sales reached USD 961.2 million during the quarter ended September 30, 2026, marking a sequential increase of USD 209.1 million. Aluminium shipments also climbed to 173,483 tonnes from 130,632 tonnes in the preceding quarter, reflecting the contribution of Line 2 returning to near-full production during the reporting period. The improvement in earnings was primarily driven...

In the entire first half of the year, world alumina production came in at 68.152 million tonnes – 1.79 per cent less than 69.393 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year. China, being the world’s largest producer of alumina,...

The carbonated soft drink manufacturer Coca-Cola announced that the company upraised its annual growth forecast as the demand for the colas escalates dynamically, notwithstanding the price surge to soften the jolt of higher costs for vital feeds like aluminium cans and corn sugar. Aluminium beverage cans are the most sustainable beverage packaging material. It is made from aluminium and has a higher recycling rate and more recycled content than competing package types. Furthermore, aluminium cans are lightweight, stackable and strong, allowing brands to package and transport more beverages using less material. However, the packaged food producers have so far witnessed the negligible impact of decades-high inflation on demand, particularly in the United States, as people prefer spending on...

Aluminium scrap is generally categorized as either "new scrap" from production processes or "old scrap" from post-consumer use. In manufacturing aluminium semi-fabricated and final products, new scrap is generated. Those products collected after consumers have disposed of them are considered old scrap. It is common for old scrap to be more contaminated than new scrap. Vehicles that have reached the end of their useful lives, demolished buildings and constructions, packaging materials that have been discarded, home and office appliances, as well as machinery equipment, can all provide old aluminium scrap. Following a 5.0% expansion in 2021, Lithuania's economy is expected to expand by 1.9% in 2022, a moderate increase over the 1.7% forecast in spring, resulting from a better-than-expected...

Savannah’s pilot aluminum cup program has come up with yet another idea of reutilizing the cups. The idea is to redesign aluminum cups into sustainable souvenirs. Nick Pulambo, Savannah City Council and the 4th District Alderman for the city of Savannah, said Downtown Business Association picked up the idea and commissioned Dana Richardson, a local artist, to transform the cups designs. Savannah initiated the pilot aluminum cup program to cut down on waste from single-use cups by offering an alternate usage idea. Cups that are recycled in Savannah are broken down at a facility in Rome where they use the recycled materials to create new cups for Savannah’s program. For the new program, Dana Richardson said, "I’m really excited to see people carrying them around and I hope that when people...

Aluminium as a metal is lightweight, corrosion resistant and sturdy, which makes it a good fit for yachts, ships and other similar structures. Custom Line brand’s flagship yacht, the new Navetta 50, is designed entirely out of aluminium. It is a part of the displacement range of the brand and has a displacement hull of fewer than 500 GT, an overall length (LOA) of 49.90 metres, and a beam of 9.60 metres. Custom Line Navetta 50 construction will begin at the end of the year, and the yacht won't be presented until 2024. On the front of sustainability, using aluminium instead of steel, which weighs one-third less than the latter, reduces consumption on a 50-meter boat by around 10-15% of its size and volume (GT). Instead of using a hybrid propulsion system, the builders contend that improved...

The government of Italy is seeking to acquire a stake in an Indian company, Titagarh Wagons' wholly-owned arm Firema. Titagarh is in the business of manufacturing coaches for the Indian railway. According to our report, the Italian government investment promotion agency Invitalia might acquire a 20%-30% stake in Firema. The Covid pandemic has made the world manufacturing sector suffer in various ways. Titagarh is also on the same path of countering the Covid challenges and discussing with the Italian government for financial assistance as monetarily it is strained due to the pandemic. Umesh Chowdhary, the MD of Titagarh Wagons, said, "It is a breakthrough that the Italian government will pick up a stake, apart from a PE investor, in Firema." "The promoters will also infuse fresh capital....

According to the Shanghai Metals Market, social inventories of primary aluminium gained 3,000 tonnes over the weekend across eight major consumption areas, including SHFE warrants. After several consecutive weeks of fall, primary aluminium inventories built-up to stand at 671,000 tonnes, but 111,000 tonnes lower than in the same period last year and 11,000 tonnes down week-on-week. Inventories increased on Monday as trades in the spot market declined slightly after aluminium prices rebounded last week. The weekly shipments out of warehouses in Foshan, Wuxi, and Gongyi were in a downtrend. The chart below indicates the current status of primary aluminium inventories across China in more details: In Wuxi, primary aluminium inventories accumulated by 5,000 tonnes over the weekend to come in...

China-based DDM Machinery has launched its flexible aluminium duct forming machines. These kinds of aluminium ducts or tubes are usually applied in air conditioners, ventilation, bathroom, kitchen and HVAC system. The DSMR-600 Aluminium Flexible Duct Forming Machine is one of its kind and uses a stainless steel wire at the core of the flex tubes to keep the bendability intact. Aluminium is one of the most sustainable metals found on the planet as it is infinitely recyclable. Moreover, the malleability of aluminium makes it the best non-ferrous option for the transport, electrical and construction industry. With a simple outlook, the machine is enigmatic as it can produce both one-layer aluminium tubes with steel wires inside and a double-layered aluminium tube with in-built steel wiring....
