Constellium’s plans to expand aluminium recycling in the European Union could be put on hold if the region fails to secure enough aluminium scrap, with exports to overseas markets contributing to a shortage of raw material for European producers. The company is reviewing aluminium recycling projects across its packaging, automotive and aerospace divisions. CEO Ingrid Joerg told Reuters that the projects could be larger or smaller than the EUR 130 million (USD 148.82 million) recycling expansion at Constellium’s Neuf-Brisach plant in France. “We have several recycling projects in the pipeline that we are investigating. But if there’s no scrap, they’re not going to happen,” Joerg said. EU aluminium scrap policy under scrutiny The availability of aluminium scrap has become a key concern for...
Metlen Energy & Metals PLC is investing EUR 25 million in its recycled aluminium production facility EP.AL.ME. in Greece, targeting higher processing capacity and greater use of complex aluminium scrap streams. The investment will fund automated sorting, processing and melting equipment at EP.AL.ME., which Metlen describes as Greece’s largest independent recycled aluminium producer. The project will allow the facility to process more complex scrap, including post-consumer aluminium recovered from end-of-life products. The expansion will connect EP.AL.ME. more closely with Metlen’s Aluminium of Greece facility. EP.AL.ME. will manage the collection, sorting and pre-processing of aluminium scrap, while Aluminium of Greece will provide the production scale needed to incorporate recycled metal...

According to the Shanghai Metals Market survey, aluminium billet inventories in China stood at 162,800 tonnes on Thursday, June 13, indicating a week-on-week decline of 3,600 tonnes. But on a year-on-year basis, the inventories rose 21,300 tonnes, standing at a high level for the same period in nearly four years. Pick up and supply The year-on-year increase in aluminium billet inventories could be attributed to reduced pick-up from warehouses by 6,700 tonnes to 45,200 tonnes, dropping to the lowest level in nearly four years. Due to weak purchase sentiment across China, there is a very little room for improvement in aluminium billet pick-up from warehouses. SMM believes aluminium billet inventories will remain steady in the near future amid weak downstream demand and potential supplies....

China's aluminium production reached an all-time high last month as smelters resumed operations, potentially setting the stage for further price declines following a two-year peak in May. Improved hydropower reserves in Yunnan Heavy rains have replenished hydropower reserves in Yunnan, enabling smelters to restart after droughts previously reduced their electricity supply. Insights from Bloomberg Intelligence (BI), a trusted source in the financial industry, indicate that an additional 330,000 tonnes of capacity is expected to resume in Yunnan this month. Furthermore, BI forecasts a decrease in aluminium prices in June, attributing it to softened demand following the recent price surge. According to the statistics bureau on Monday, aluminium production surged by 7.2 per cent Y-o-Y,...
