SHM Group has launched a 29-metre aluminium passenger vessel, Ocean Crewzer 8, at its shipyard in Mumbai.
{alcircleadd}The company said the vessel was built completely in-house at its Mumbai facility as part of its ongoing shipbuilding programme focused on India’s growing maritime and waterway requirements.
Ocean Crewzer 8 is a high-speed passenger craft constructed entirely using aluminium, which is commonly preferred for fast vessels because of its lighter weight and better fuel efficiency compared to conventional steel-based ships.
According to SHM Group, the project reflects its focus on strengthening indigenous shipbuilding capabilities under India’s broader self-reliance initiatives.
Mr Saifuddin Hajee, Chairman & Managing Director at SHM Group, said the vessel was completed on schedule and built entirely within the company’s own facilities.
Hajee commented. “Every vessel we launch is a result of steady, disciplined work by our team. Ocean Crewzer 8 was built at our own yard, on schedule and to a standard we stand by. As a company with a legacy of over 100 years in this industry, we remain committed to building vessels and give impetus to the Atmanirbhar Spirit.”

The company highlighted the engineering and quality-control processes involved during construction. The vessel was assembled through multiple block sections, followed by structural alignment checks, machinery foundation surveys and hydrotests of tanks before launch.
Detailed inspections were also carried out for propulsion systems, outfitting components and bow thruster installations.
Aliasgar Hajee, CEO, Maritime Safety and Securtity at the Group said the vessel demonstrates the capabilities of Indian shipyards when projects are executed through planned in-house operations.
Before launch, the company conducted a series of safety inspections at every stage of the process.
The final launch operation was completed using two 300-tonne cranes to ensure controlled entry of the vessel into the water.
Mohammed Hajee, CEO at SHM Group, said safety checks were integrated throughout the vessel’s construction process rather than being treated as a final-stage requirement.
SHM Group said the launch of Ocean Crewzer 8 forms part of its continued efforts to expand domestic production of high-speed aluminium vessels.
The company added that increasing shipping activity and waterway development in India are creating new opportunities for locally built vessels and maritime infrastructure.
