RUSAL, a global aluminium leader, delivers low-carbon, high-quality products across key industries, including automotive, packaging and electrical applications. With advanced technologies, circular economy initiatives and a strong presence in Türkiye, RUSAL ensures stability, sustainability and reliable supply for partners worldwide.
In an interview for “ALUEXPO 2025 & Beyond”, Yiğit Kasapoğlu emphasised RUSAL’s commitment to sustainability, innovation and customer collaboration. He highlighted breakthroughs like inert anode technology, energy-efficient upgrades and low-carbon PEFA alloys, demonstrating how RUSAL helps partners meet decarbonisation goals while maintaining performance and quality in a volatile global market.
AL Circle: Can you please brief us some of your latest technical developments to accelerate sustainability goals?
Yiğit Kasapoğlu: One of our most significant achievements has been the stable production of standard grade aluminium using inert anode technology. Unlike conventional carbon anodes, inert anodes emit oxygen instead of CO2, setting new environmental benchmarks for the industry.
In parallel, RUSAL has upgraded more than 5,500 electrolysers with energy-efficient designs, saving over 500 million kWh of electricity annually — the equivalent consumption of a small city. Importantly, this programme did not require capital investments, as upgrades were implemented during routine maintenance. We are also advancing the circular economy: at our Krasnoyarsk smelter, we have produced slabs for beverage cans using over 50 per cent recycled aluminium combined with ALLOW INERTA™. This reduces the carbon footprint of the final product by more than half compared to conventional methods.
Our EcoVadis sustainability score improved to 67/100, confirming that our efforts in ethics, environment, and responsible supply chains are recognised globally.
All these innovations align with our ALLOW brand promise: low-carbon aluminium backed by transparency and third-party recognition.
AL Circle: Amid the ongoing trade tensions and volatile aluminium prices, how do you expect the demand and sales this year in Türkiye?
Yiğit Kasapoğlu: Despite global volatility, demand in Türkiye remains strong, particularly in automotive, packaging and electrical applications. Today the size of primary aluminium market in Türkiye is ~1.5 million tonnes, and RUSAL supplies around 20 per cent. We expect this year’s demand to stay resilient because aluminium is deeply integrated into Türkiye’s industrial base, from EV components to consumer goods. We see similar resilience in global markets. While some regions face short-term headwinds from trade tensions, the structural drivers of aluminium demand including decarbonisation, electrification, and urbanisation continue to support steady growth worldwide. This global perspective reinforces our confidence that aluminium remains one of the most futureproof materials.
RUSAL’s strength is that we offer stability and predictability to our partners, supported by our local 24/7 customer service platform in Türkiye. By delivering low-carbon, traceable aluminium under the ALLOW brand, we provide clients with a competitive edge even in volatile markets.
