Description

STEINERT’s Colour Sorting Systems: Detecting Valuable Residues Using Surface Colour Differences:

Colour sorting is one of the most established methods for classifying materials, utilizing sensor technology to separate valuable residues. By detecting colour differences, similar to how the human eye perceives them, this technology can distinguish materials such as copper from brass or blue PET flakes from green.

The human eye perceives colour within the visible light spectrum (VIS), ranging from approximately 400 to 780nm. This range lies between the ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) light spectra, which are not visible to the human eye.

STEINERT’s detection systems operate within the VIS spectrum, accurately identifying subtle colour variations in the RGB colour space, capable of detecting around 16.8 million colours. We use high-performance LED emitters to illuminate the detection area. These LEDs offer numerous advantages, including long lifespan, rapid response times, high light intensity, and exceptional energy efficiency, all within the desired wavelength range.

During the colour sorting process, the system captures surface colour information of the materials being sorted. This colour data, akin to other sensor-based secondary features, helps identify valuable differences for effective classification.

The UniSort Finealyse system uses this colour information in conjunction with NIR or metal detection, enabling the sorting of non-ferrous metals or plastic flakes from a grain size of 3mm onwards.

Benefits:

  • STEINERT KSS | CLI: Non-ferrous metal and printed circuit board sorting (Zorba or Zebra)
  • UniSort Finealyse: Copper and heavy metal sorting & sort plastic flakes by colour
  • Sorting on the basis of optical features
  • The low-cost way to separate non-ferrous metals
  • Make effective use of colour information
