Vedanta's Aluminium & Power business in Jharsuguda observes 45th National Safety Week

Vedanta Limited, India’s only diversified natural resources company continues its effort to promote and inculcate safety consciousness among the plant personnel. The company observed the 45th National Safety week from 4th - 14th Mar’ 2016 at its Jharsuguda operations. The theme of this year was “Strengthen safety movement to achieve zero harm” and various activities were conducted from 26th February 2016.

On 4th March 2016, a Safety Flag was hoisted and Safety Pledge was administered by Sr. Management and employees. Various contests such as the identification of best First Aiders through Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) competition, Best Safety conscious Operation and Maintenance employees through ‘Safety Buddy’ competition, Hazard identification skills through ‘Hunt the Hazard’ competition and analyzing the Root Causes of Major accidents through ‘What Went Wrong’ competition were held during the week. A Blood donation Camp ; Canteen Hygiene Audit and above all a unique Safety Quiz competition on the theme of ‘KBC’—“Koun Banega Safety Champion” were the other highlights of the week.

The Closing Ceremony was held yesterday on 14th March 2016, with the lighting of lamp by Chief Guest Dy. Director of Factories and Boilers, Sambalpur Mr. Abani Kant Nayak and CEO, Aluminium Business Mr. Abhijit Pati. Vedanta Jharsuguda’s first Sustainability journal was launched by Sr. management and Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr. Pati congratulated the HSE Team in organizing the Safety Week program successfully thereby spreading safety awareness amongst all. He also thanked Dy. Director of Factories & Boilers Mr. Nayak for his valuable guidance and support in establishing a Safety Culture at Vedanta Jharsuguda premises.

Chief Guest Mr. Nayak applauded Vedanta HSE department for a wonderful show during Safety Week which covered more than 4000 people He emphasized the need of Behaviour Based Safety to curb down the incidents by changing employees behavior.

The program was also graced by Head HSE & Sustainability Mr. D K Singh, Head Smelter Jharsuguda Mr. Dayanidhi Behra along with plant Heads Mr. J K Mohanty, Mr G G Pal, Mr. K A Choudhary, Mr. Pankaj Sharma and Head HR Mr. Dilip Ranjan Sahoo.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. K S Mohapatra-Head Safety IPP and the program was anchored by Ms. Shahahna Mazumdar-Associate Manager (HSE & Sustainability).
