Global aluminium producer RUSAL has become the first primary aluminium producer to be certified under the new version of China’s Green Power Aluminum standard. The certification applies to remelt aluminium ingots from RUSAL Krasnoyarsk Jsc (KRAZ), a recognition that underscores the company’s long-standing commitment to advancing sustainable practices in the global aluminium industry.

A critical aspect of this certification lies in the alignment of the new Green Power Aluminum standard with China’s newly introduced carbon footprint calculation standard this year. This alignment ensures that the evaluation of low-carbon aluminium products follows unified, up-to-date national criteria, enhancing the accuracy, consistency, and credibility of environmental performance assessments across the sector.
The certification was issued by the Green Power Aluminium Evaluation Center of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association—an authorized independent verification body with official entitlement to issue carbon footprint certificates. Its role as an impartial evaluator adds rigor to the certification process, validating the authenticity of RUSAL’s low-carbon achievements.

In the evaluation, the center reconfirmed RUSAL’s exceptional environmental performance: aluminium from KRAZ boasts a cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of less than 6.0 CO₂ eq per ton, placing it among the products with the lowest carbon footprints in the global aluminium industry. This result stems from RUSAL’s strategic focus on green production— the company primarily relies on hydropower for its manufacturing operations, a choice that has earned it global recognition as a leading green and low-carbon aluminium producer.
