

The country's alumina export value reached USD 2.3 billion last year, marking a 15.2 per cent on-year increase, the BPS data showed. By destination, Malaysia, India and Russia were the top three importers of Indonesian alumina in 2025, Mysteel Global noted.

Malaysia was the largest overseas buyer last year, importing 1.5 million tonnes, up 13.1 per cent from a year earlier, according to BPS. India and Russia followed, receiving 940,081 tonnes and 651,096 tonnes of alumina from Indonesia, respectively, down 11.8 per cent and 29.1 per cent from 2024.
China ranked seventh among all export destinations. Its alumina imports from the Southeast Asian country surged by 141.2 per cent on year to 302,944 tonnes in 2025. This figure was slightly below the data released by China's General Administration of Customs, which reported alumina imports of 310,430 tonnes from Indonesia during the same year, 7,486 tonnes higher than the BPS figure.
On the import side, Indonesia purchased 1.1 million tonnes of alumina from foreign countries in 2025, up by 2 per cent from 2024. Australia, Vietnam and China were the country's three largest suppliers of imported alumina. Indonesia's net alumina exports totalled 4.2 million tonnes last year, rising by 29.5 per cent from a year ago.
