Cano Water, the world's first canned water brand, has announced a significant change in its operations. It will move to UK production from its original source in the Austrian Alps.
By relocating its production to the UK, Cano Water has achieved a remarkable milestone in its sustainability journey. The brand has reduced its carbon footprint by over half while maintaining the exceptional quality and purity of the water, which has become synonymous with the Cano Water name.
Founded with a mission to combat the global plastic pollution crisis, Cano Water has been a pioneer in providing consumers with a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic water bottles since 2015. As the company continues to grow and evolve, it remains dedicated to minimising its environmental impact by constantly seeking ways to improve its operations, with the transition to UK-based production serving as a testament to this unwavering commitment. Alongside the move to UK production, Cano Water is reducing its footprint across the whole supply chain. They continue to lead the way in packaging innovation, with their best-selling 330ml ring pull cans and outer boxes being enhanced through lightweight without compromising on quality.
Their new UK-sourced water is drawn up more than 240 metres below the English countryside via a long-established borehole. The unique sandstone geology of the aquifer slowly filters the water, guaranteeing an immaculate and natural taste. The average age of each drop is over 3,000 years, around the time Stonehenge was built.
Josh White, the CEO and Co-Founder of Cano Water, commented, "Our move to UK production and sourcing is a significant step towards our goal of saving one billion plastic bottles from landfill by 2030. Shockingly, 15,000 kg of plastic pollutes our oceans every minute, despite single-use plastic bottles being a major contributor to global plastic pollution, harming wildlife and ecosystems in the process."
"By partnering with UK suppliers, we're thrilled to continue our mission of providing consumers with a sustainable alternative to bottled water while minimising our environmental impact even further."
The move follows Cano Water's recent expansion into online grocery retailer Ocado and leading supermarket Tesco. Cano Water Sparkling is now stocked in 240 stores nationwide, making its sustainable alternative to single-use plastic water bottles more accessible to a wider audience.
To date, Cano Water has sold over 50 million cans and attracted notable investment from celebrities. The latest A-listers to back the brand were announced as Harry Lewis, Simon Minter, and Vikram Singh Barn from YouTube sensation The Sideman, acclaimed rapper Dave, renowned comedian Ricky Gervais, and singer-songwriter Jess Glynne.
