Zurich-based Hurst Song Architekten has added aluminium-clad building project Mehrfamilienhause to its residential portfolio. The design of the buildings set amid a picturesque abundance of traditional village houses, incorporates three separate apartments stacked around a central communal staircase- all representing a subtle blend of rustic serenity with modern aesthetics and functionality.
Mehrfamilienhause as a residential project stands out because of its anodised and brushed aluminium cladding on the exterior which is understated yet neat and refined. It has a modest quality that prevents it from overwhelming its neighbours, as corner windows create an understanding of size and scale between the interior and the adjacent buildings.
The central staircase of Mehrfamilienhause is another feature that steals the show and provides an attractive centrepiece rather than a mere convenience for navigation. The vertical aluminium railing cleverly appears to heighten the space, as well as providing consistency between the external and interior aesthetics.

The designing palette of the interiors has also been kept minimal. Simple use of exposed concrete surfaces, combined with oak panelling, has helped create warmth and fluency throughout. The optimal use of aluminium cladding not only makes the project futuristic in terms energy savings but also sends out a message of sustainability among new age house project developers and their clienteles alike.
