In recent years, Yunnan Province has taken the lead in transferring aluminium sector capacity, capitalising on the benefits of renewable energy, and the creation of "China's Green Aluminium Valley" has reached a point where further acceleration is no longer possible. Upon the successful implementation of the primary industrial park initiatives aimed at integrating hydropower and aluminium processing in Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, as well as Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, it is anticipated that the production capacity of Yunnan province will exceed 8 million tonnes.
This capacity is approximately one-fifth of the total national electrolytic aluminium production capacity. Yunnan Aluminium Co. Ltd., a prominent enterprise with a longstanding involvement in the aluminium industry spanning over five decades, has played a pivotal role in advancing the high-quality enhancement and growth of Yunnan's environmentally sustainable aluminium sector along the trajectory of China's Green Aluminium Valley development initiative.
{alcircleadd}During the 2023 China Industrial Transfer and Development Docking Event (Yunnan) on September 3, Ji Shujun, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Yunnan Aluminium, emphasised in an interview the company's commitment to "central-local cooperation". He highlighted the company's dedication to fulfilling the responsibilities of central enterprises, particularly in promoting green and low-carbon development. Yunnan Aluminium aims to enhance energy efficiency and environmental protection measures while also taking a leading role in scientific and technological innovation. Furthermore, the company seeks to elevate its advanced industrial base.
Yunnan Aluminium's industrial scale and competitiveness have increased with support from all aspects of Yunnan Province, its innovation capabilities in key areas have achieved industry leadership, and it has achieved significant breakthroughs in industrial green development and high-end aluminium development.
Yunnan has made significant strides in establishing "China's Green Aluminium Valley", yielding noteworthy outcomes. The company has successfully established a comprehensive and sustainable aluminium industrial chain encompassing the whole production process from bauxite mining through alumina refining, carbon product manufacturing, aluminium smelting, and deep aluminium processing. Aluminium goods with a green attribute are extensively used in many downstream applications within the industry.
Ji Shujun asserts that Yunnan Aluminium has effectively established a comprehensive industrial chain and intends to actively advance the expansion, reinforcement, and enhancement of this chain. The company prioritises enhancing the downstream industrial chain's value while concurrently establishing a high-quality development park for green aluminium.
Yunnan Aluminium intends to prioritise automotive lightweighting, new energy electronic materials, aerospace, rail transportation, and related sectors. The company aims to expedite the implementation of deep processing projects and establish a collaborative network with partners that span the entire value chain, fostering mutual benefits and synergies. Ultimately, the objective is to select a prominent domestic industrial cluster with a high-value product chain.
In recent years, the development of Yunnan's green aluminium industry has resulted in the establishment of several industry benchmark companies, including Yunnan Aluminium and its subsidiaries. Additionally, a comprehensive and robust sector, academia, and research system has been formed, including a cluster of domestic scientific research institutes with advanced technical capabilities. Simultaneously, Yunnan Province has witnessed the emergence of advanced technological innovation platforms and skilled talent teams. Several high-level and specialised innovation platforms, including the High-Efficiency and Energy-Saving Aluminium Electrolysis Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, have been successfully established.
During the 2023 China Industrial Transfer and Development Docking Event held in Yunnan, Yunnan Province entered into agreements for 382 projects, with a projected investment total of 396.6 billion yuan. Strategic developing industry initiatives, such as new energy, biomedicine, and materials, constituted almost 60% of the investment.
As a representative entity, Yunnan Aluminium is diligently engaged in establishing a contemporary industrial system and actively pursuing significant prospects to facilitate a substantial advancement towards high-quality growth. The green aluminium business has had a twofold increase in output value within three years. This sector is anticipated to expand further and evolve into a new industry with a market value reaching the 100-billion-dollar mark by 2023.
