
Global primary aluminium production came in at 5.477 million tonnes in March, representing an increase of 1.52% from 5.395 million tonnes in March 2019, according to the latest data showed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) on Monday 20 April 2020. On a month-on-month comparison, aluminium production rose by 6.45% from 5.145 million tonnes.

Aluminium production totalled 16.072 million tonnes in the first three months of 2020, up by 2.1% from 15.742 million tonnes in the first three months of 2019.
In Asia ex-China, aluminium production declined by 7.94% year-on-year but up 3.88% month-on-month to 348,000 tonnes in March. Output in January-March stood at 1.036 million tonnes, a decrease of 5.47% from 1.096 million tonnes in January-March 2019.
In the Middle East, primary aluminium production stood at 507,000 tonnes and 1.489 million tonnes in March and January-March, up by 9.27% YoY and 11% YoY.
Europe’s primary aluminium production totalled 641,000 tonnes in March, slightly down year-on-year. In the first three months of 2020, total production dropped 0.48% to stand at 1.875 million tonnes.
China’s estimated primary aluminium production stood at 3.1 million tonnes in March, IAI data showed.
