
World’s primary aluminium production in September 2023 amounted to 5.871 million tonnes, reflecting a month-on-month fall of 2.97 per cent from 6.051 million tonnes, found the International Aluminium Institute. The output fell after two consecutive months of rise. The last downfall in world’s primary aluminium production was in June when it declined by 3.02 per cent from 5.922 million tonnes to 5.743 million tonnes.

On a year-on-year calculation, world’s September primary aluminium output stood 1.91 per cent lower than 5.716 million tonnes.
The daily average production in the said month was 195,700 tonnes, down by 500 tonnes from 195,200 tonnes a month ago but up by 5,200 tonnes from 190,500 tonnes a year earlier.
World’s total production of primary aluminium during January-September 2023 accumulated at 52.426 million tonnes, up by 1.81 per cent year-on-year from 51.496 million tonnes.
In China, primary aluminium production during September 2023 was 3.5 million tonnes, accounting for 59.62 per cent of the world’s output. On a month-on-month basis, China’s primary aluminium output in September recorded a fall of 2.97 per cent from 3.607 million tonnes; while on a year-on-year calculation, the output registered a rise of 4.07 per cent from 3.363 million tonnes.
From January to September 2023, China produced 30.924 million tonnes of primary aluminium, up by 2.74 per cent from 30.098 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.
