Lord Mayor Graham Quirk and Sir Llew Edwards pose in front of a recast sculpture from The Human Factor
The two artworks, from The Human Factor series by John Underwood, have been unveiled by Lord Mayor Graham Quirk and World Expo ‘88 chairman Sir Llew Edwards for the public.
The artwork has been recast from the original fibreglass into aluminium as a prequel to the 30th anniversary of the event in 2018.
Sir Llew said World Expo 88 was an event that allowed Brisbane residents to present their view of the home city to people from all over the world.
“Also, I think it showed us that we in this great city can do anything we want to in the future.”
Councillor Quirk said that many of The Human Factor pieces had been stored away but the council had relocated 16 and decided to redesign them.

He has said that they are going to recast all 16 pieces in an aluminium cast and relive them for the City of Brisbane. The unicyclist sculpture suspended above South Bank’s Stanley Street Plaza is from the same series of art work.
The work for these sculptures was funded in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 budgets and they are going to restore roughly ten more artworks in the new financial year with the funding.
