
The world alumina production in June 2023 stood at 11.310 million tonnes, bringing the Q2 output to 34.613 million tonnes. Compared to 33.372 million tonnes in Q1 and 35.556 million tonnes in Q2 2022, the world alumina production in Q2 2023 edged a quarterly increase of 3.72 per cent and an annual fall of 2.65 per cent, respectively, found the International Aluminium Institute survey.

On a month-on-month calculation, the world alumina production in June 2023 decreased by 4.78 per cent from 11.878 million tonnes, and on an annual basis declined by 4.4 per cent from 11.830 million tonnes.
During the first half of 2023, world alumina production totalled 67.985 million tonnes, down by 1.63 per cent from 69.112 million tonnes a year ago.
In China, alumina production during June 2023 was 6.735 million tonnes, which reflected a fall of 3.23 per cent M-o-M from 6.960 million tonnes and a Y-o-Y decline of 2.53 per cent from 6.910 million tonnes.
In Q2 2023, China’s alumina output amounted to 20.465 million tonnes – 6.48 per cent more than 19.220 million tonnes in Q1 but restrained Y-o-Y compared to 20.470 million tonnes.
In the Oceania region, alumina production during June 2023 stood at 1.521 million tonnes – 6.17 per cent less than 1.621 million tonnes in May 2023 and 7.54 per cent down from 1.645 million tonnes in June 2022.
From April to June (Q2 2023), the Oceania region churned out 4.729 million tonnes of alumina compared to 4.638 million tonnes during the previous quarter and 5.044 million tonnes a year ago. That registered a Q-o-Q rise of 1.96 per cent but a Y-o-Y fall of 6.25 per cent, learned IAI data.
World’s daily average alumina output in June 2023 was 377,000 tonnes versus 383,200 tonnes in May 2023 and 394,300 tonnes in June 2022.
