
According to the International Aluminium Institute, world alumina production during April 2023 edged a fall of 3.32 per cent month-on-month to stand at 11.235 million tonnes. In March, the output stood at 11.621 million tonnes, reflecting a hike of 12.48 per cent from 10.331 million tonnes in February.

On a year-on-year calculation, world alumina output in April recorded a decline of 2.49 per cent from 11.522 million tonnes.
The world average daily output in April’23 was 374,500 tonnes, slightly down by 400 tonnes from 374,900 tonnes in March. On an annual calculation, it plunged by 9,600 tonnes or 2.5 per cent from 384,100 tonnes.
During January-April 2023, the world alumina output amounted to 44.607 million tonnes versus 45.078 million tonnes during the same period of the previous year, found IAI data.
China, the world’s largest producer of alumina, churned out 6.58 million tonnes during April 2023. On a month-on-month calculation, the output was 3.24 per cent less than 6.8 million tonnes but stood 1.08 per cent higher year-on-year than 6.51 million tonnes.
In the first four months of 2023, China produced 25.8 million tonnes of alumina, marking a growth of 4.58 per cent year-on-year from 24.67 million tonnes.
In the Oceania region, alumina production during April 2023 stood at 1.587 million tonnes, showcasing a rise of 4.2 per cent from 1.523 million tonnes a month ago, but fell by 4.97 per cent from 1.67 million tonnes a year earlier.
During January-April 2023, Oceania’s alumina output totalled 6.225 million tonnes after shrinking by 9.31 per cent from 6.864 million tonnes during the same period of the previous year.
The average daily alumina output in China was recorded at 219,300 tonnes versus 217,000 tonnes a year ago, while the daily production in Oceania stood at 52,900 tonnes against 55,700 tonnes. The data indicated that in line with the monthly production, China’s daily output increased annually by 1.06 per cent and that of Oceania’s dropped by 5.03 per cent.
