When the sustainability of a company matches its innovation, it makes the aluminium packaging lead the way. Vinca, the award-winning 100 per cent Italian canned wines, have debuted its Province-style pale rosé in an aluminium bottle, which is available across the north of England across multiple supermarkets for the end users.
This debut of this elegant rosé aligns with the firm's active red and white wines in 750ml aluminium bottles. The niche to incorporate the Italian canned wines in aluminium is simple: to gain a low-carbon alternative, removing the use of traditional glass.
The firm's use of 100 per cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) aluminium bottles indicates sustainability and lightweight, whereas the traditional glass offered only 60 per cent. Moreover, with the aluminium bottles, the firm can assure its audience with faster-chilling wine, along with a wine-grade lining inside, ensuring the freshness of the content inside.
The inclusion of aluminium ensures the company is sustainable because the production of the bottles requires 4x less energy than it does for glass. Each aluminium wine bottle weighs around 68g when empty, in comparison to 450g for a glass bottle. Sleekness of the bottle requires smaller cartons for logistics and transportation, enabling nearly 40 per cent of the bottles to fit into one container, reducing further carbon emissions.
Some of the other positive environmental impacts attributed by the company to the shift from glass to aluminium include a 5x reduction of carbon-intensive production compared to glass, where the raw output with aluminium is 0.129 kgCO2e, whereas glass is 1.03 kgCO2e. Similarly, Vinca has successfully slashed down its carbon emissions by almost 50 per cent as well as lowered its total carbon footprint by 47 per cent, making it highly recyclable.

Moreover, switching to aluminium has provided the firm with the opportunity to save shelf space, allowing the retailers and the merchandise partners to have three Vinca aluminium wine bottles instead of 2 Vinca glass wine bottles in the same space. Extra space attributes expand the inventory on the shelves along with visibility, enhancing a higher brand value.
The firm, after attaining a runaway success with the award-winning canned wines, faced multiple questions regarding its bottle production. After months of experimenting, the brand successfully launched its 100 per cent recycled aluminium wine bottle.
Owing to this, Jack Green, the co-founder of Vinca, stated, "We're proud to bring our organic rosé to Booths in our innovative aluminium bottle. It's a format that's lighter on the planet and easier for modern drinkers – with all the flavour and care you'd expect from premium Sicilian wine."
One of the consumers of Vinca Wines, Victoria Anderson, commented, "We champion brands that combine excellent quality with forward-thinking sustainability. Vinca's organic rosé is a standout addition to Booths' wine range, and the aluminium bottle makes it ideal for customers who care about great taste and lower-impact packaging."
The slow shift from the glass bottles to 100 per cent recycled aluminium bottles upholds the firm's sustainability approach, which also significantly lowers the carbon footprint. Additionally, the shift ensures lightweight logistics as well as sustainable innovation, setting a higher benchmark in the wine industry.
