Vedanta Power marks national safety month with zero fatalities across plants in FY26

Vedanta Power, among India’s leading private power companies, marked National Safety Month (commenced on 4th March, 2026) by reaffirming its commitment to workplace safety, reporting zero fatalities across its plants in FY2026. The achievement places the company among the strongest safety performers in India’s thermal power sector.

Vedanta Power operates major thermal power facilities, including Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) in Punjab, Meenakshi Energy Limited (MEL) in Andhra Pradesh, and Vedanta Limited Chhattisgarh Thermal Power Plant (VLCTPP) in Chhattisgarh, where safety practices are embedded into plant operations and workforce engagement.

Highlighting the company’s strong commitment to safety, Mr Rajinder Singh Ahuja, CEO-Power at Vedanta Limited, said:  "At Vedanta, safety is our first priority. Our foremost responsibility is to ensure that every individual returns home safely to their families each day. When people feel safe, they can perform with confidence and deliver better outcomes. Our commitment to ‘Zero Harm’ and ‘No Injury’ reflects a culture where safety is not just a policy, but a core value that guides the way we operate every day. Achieving zero fatalities in FY26 is a testament to this unwavering focus on safety-first practices across our operations.”

He added, “This year’s National Safety Month theme, ‘Engage, Educate & Empower People to Enhance Safety’, resonates strongly with our approach. We actively engage our employees, management, business partners and communities, including villages, schools and even employees’ safety awareness programmes and training initiatives. Educating our people remains central to our efforts, as we recognise that a lack of awareness or competency can lead to risks. At the same time, we empower our employees and business partners to take ownership of safety, including the right to refuse practice if they identify any potential hazard. At Vedanta, we invest continuously in building a culture where safety is practised both within and beyond the workplace. It is a value that our people carry with them, not only at Vedanta, but throughout their professional and personal lives."

Safety systems include strict permit protocols for hazardous work, disciplined operational procedures, and continuous safety monitoring to identify and address risks before incidents occur. Employees and business partners also participate in regular safety briefings and awareness programmes designed to reinforce responsible workplace practices.  While maintaining zero fatalities, the focus remains on achieving Absolute Zero Harm through strengthened systems and proactive risk controls. High-risk activities are monitored under Critical Risk Management (CRM), supported by key initiatives such as Visible Felt Leadership through daily shop-floor visits, Personal Safety Action Plans for frontline accountability, and a Night Duty Officer system ensuring 24×7 safety oversight. Capability and culture are being strengthened through AR/VR-based digital safety training, mental wellness initiatives promoting psychological safety, and the institutionalisation of the “Right to Refuse Unsafe Work” and Stop Work Authority. Together, these measures are helping the plant transition from a compliance-driven approach to a predictive, technology-enabled and culture-led safety ecosystem, reinforcing our commitment to Zero Harm, Zero Fatality and Zero Compromise.

As part of National Safety Month, Vedanta Power has undertaken a series of initiatives to deepen safety awareness among its workforce and surrounding communities. Activities include recognising safety champions, conducting safety quiz competitions, presenting Best Business Partner awards, and hosting health camps for employees and partners.

The company is also expanding its safety engagement beyond the workplace through community programmes such as Suraksha Kutumb, which encourages families to adopt safety practices at home, and Kaun Banega Safety Champ, a quiz-based initiative designed to build safety awareness among employees and their families.

Through these initiatives, Vedanta Power aims to strengthen a culture in which safety is viewed as a shared responsibility among employees, contractors, families, and local communities. Vedanta Power continues to prioritise safety as a core operational value, focusing on prevention, awareness and continuous improvement to ensure a safe working environment across all its power generation facilities.
