Vedanta Aluminium presented 24 technical papers and secured three Best Paper Awards at IBAAS 2026 in Jharsuguda, highlighting its work across aluminium smelting, alumina refining, sustainability, alloy development and resource recovery.
The 14th International Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium Conference and Exhibition (IBAAS 2026), held in Jharsuguda, brought together industry leaders, researchers, technology providers, policymakers and academics to discuss the future of the aluminium industry under the theme, ‘Global Aluminium Outlook 2030: Secure Resources, Efficient Energy and Value from Wastes’.
Vedanta Aluminium’s participation covered a broad range of technologies and applications, including artificial intelligence, digitalisation, alumina refining, aluminium smelting, sustainability, alloy development, resource recovery and operational excellence.

Three papers take top honours
The company secured three Best Paper Awards across different technical categories at the conference.
In the Aluminium Smelting category, the paper ‘Carbon Anode Quality Improvement’ was recognised for work focused on improving anode quality and smelter performance.
The Refining category recognised ‘Bauxite Residue to Resource: A Circular Economy Partnership between Vedanta & Fertilizer Industries’. The paper demonstrated an approach to converting bauxite residue into a useful resource through cross-sector collaboration, bringing resource recovery and circular economy principles into the spotlight.
The third award went to ‘Improving Age-Hardening Response of AA6201 Rod: Role of Mg/Si Optimization and STRONTIUM-Assisted Intermetallic Transformation’, recognising research linked to product innovation and metallurgical development.

Aluminium value chain in focus
Vedanta Aluminium CEO Rajesh Kumar, who attended the inaugural session as Chief Guest, highlighted the need for resilient, technology-driven and value-added aluminium ecosystems amid growing demand from electric mobility, renewable energy, infrastructure and advanced manufacturing.
Meanwhile, Vibhav Upadhyay, COO-Smelter, Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda, delivered a thought leadership address titled ‘Aluminium Value Chain and its Applications: Enabling Lightweight Solutions, Energy Efficiency and Advancing ESG Goals’.
The address focused on aluminium's role in lightweight and energy-efficient applications, alongside the importance of responsible production.
The company's 24-paper presentation and three award-winning studies collectively span several stages of the aluminium value chain — from bauxite residue utilisation and alumina refining to aluminium smelting and alloy development.
With IBAAS 2026 centred on securing resources, improving energy efficiency and creating value from waste, the technical contributions also placed resource efficiency, circularity and technology-led aluminium manufacturing at the centre of the discussion.
