Use of RVM will increase percentage of recycled aluminium packaging in India, says Can-Pack MD

2MINS READ
In the recently ended World Packaging Congress in Mumbai, Marek Kura, managing director of Can-Pack, said the use of RVM i.e. Reverse Vending Machine, currently used by many countries for recycling of metal cans, is yet to take off in India.

Can-Pack India is the country’s leading aluminium beverage can-manufacturing company with almost 70% of market share. Talking about the aluminium beverage can recycling scenario in India at the global event that took place in Mumbai, during October 9-10, Mr. Kura said, RVM helps by giving incentives in exchange for recyclables. The attractive advantages of RVM are: customised graphics, varied capacities, special software and online monitoring, built-in wall and multimedia versions. This initiative gives advanced, modern solution which can affect environmental awareness of the society and increase % of recycled packaging.

Today India’s flexible packaging market is growing at 14 percent a year, and accounts for 24 percent of the consumer packaging market. It is expected to be a $32 billion industry in 2020.

Pradeep Tyle, senior president and CEO of Uflex said, “Merely 5% of packaging products is sold in packaged form and a majority, that is, 95 % is unpackaged. He said India does not lag in technology but market penetration is still low: “Among the major changes are that the selling of commodities is shifting from small shops to hypermarkets and that is bringing major opportunity for the packaging industry.”

The World Packaging Congress 2015, organised in association with World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and Asian Packaging Federation (APF), revolved around the theme of “Packaging Strategies for Global Competitiveness.”

The congress presented an opportunity for the packaging industry players to explore the latest developments in strategies, techniques and technologies in terms of packaging materials, machineries and also systems within two days through six parallel conferences. Eminent packaging professionals and academics from across the globe converged at Mumbai during the congress to highlight various aspects of the current global packaging scenario in terms of strategies, emerging technologies, package design and impact on consumers mind.
