
According to the latest report released by the US Geological Survey, domestic primary aluminium production in the United States stood at 80,000 tonnes in August 2020, slightly down by 2,000 tonnes or 2.44 per cent from 82,000 tonnes in the month earlier. The average daily production came in at 2,580 tonnes, 2.64 per cent lesser than 2,650 tonnes in July 2020 and 11 per cent lesser than in August 2019.

Total aluminium recovered from scrap in August 2020 was 270,000 tonnes, up by 2,000 tonnes from 268,000 tonnes in July 2020. However, on a year-on-year basis, the US aluminium recovery from scrap in August stood down by 9 per cent.
Of 270,000 tonnes, 144,000 tonnes were recovered from new scrap and the remaining 126,000 tonnes from old scrap.
The United States spot market price of primary aluminium ingot in August 2020 was $0.936 per pound, 10 per cent more than that in July 2020 and 3 per cent less than in August 2019.
Inventories of primary aluminium in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, settled at 221,342 tonnes at the end of August, compared with 193,561 tonnes at the end of July. Inventories of secondary aluminium (North American Secondary Aluminium Alloy Contract) in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, on the other hand, decreased to 34,121 t at the end of August from 35,462 t at the end of July.
