In January 2022, the United States domestic primary aluminium production stood at 82,000 tonnes, reflecting a second monthly rise of 3,000 tonnes or 3.8 per cent, found the US Census Bureau. In December 2021, the United States primary aluminium production was 79,000 tonnes, up by 4,000 tonnes from the previous month.
On a year-on-year calculation, the United States primary aluminium output in January 2022 was 4,000 tonnes or 5.13 per cent higher than 78,000 tonnes.
Total aluminium recovered from scrap in January 2022 was 266,000 tonnes, slightly less than the revised amount in December 2021 and essentially unchanged from the revised amounts in January 2021. Of the total amount recovered in January 2022, 151,000 tonnes were recovered from new scrap and 115,000 tonnes from old scrap.
In January 2022, the average spot market price of primary aluminium ingot was $1.69 per pound, an increase of 13.42 per cent from $1.49 per pound in December 2021 and a surge of 57.94 per cent from $1.07 per pound in January 2021.
Inventories of primary aluminum in the United States LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, decreased to 51,496 tonnes in January 2022 from 57,437 tonnes in December 2021. Inventories of secondary aluminium (North American Secondary Aluminum Alloy Contract) in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, declined to 10,748 tonnes in January 2022 from 11,407 tonnes in December 2021.
