
According to the data released by the United States Geological Survey for April 2021, US domestic primary aluminium production stood at 72,000 tonnes – 4 per cent or 3,000 tonnes less than 75,000 tonnes produced in March 2021. On a year-on-year calculation, the output edged 21.74 per cent or 20,000 tonnes lower than 92,000 tonnes.

The daily average production in the said month was 2,410 tonnes, unchanged from that in March and 21 per cent less than in April 2020.
Total aluminium recovered from scrap in April 2021 was 263,000 tonnes, 3.31 per cent down from 272,000 tonnes in March but 6.91 per cent up from 246,000 tonnes in April 2020. Of this, 145,000 tonnes was recovered from new scrap, while 119,000 tonnes from old scrap.
In April, the United States average spot market primary aluminium ingot price was US$ 1.29 per pound in comparison with US$ 1.18 per pound in March 2021 and US$ 0.765 per pound in March 2020.
Inventories of primary aluminium in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, in the United States decreased to 184,048 tonnes at the end of April 2021 from 191,074 tonnes at the end of March 2021. Inventories of secondary aluminium (North American Secondary Aluminium Alloy Contract) in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, in the United States decreased to 15,840 tonnes at the end of April 2021 from 18,678 tonnes at the end of March 2021.
