
The US dollar continued to rise against the pound and euro as uncertainty spread ahead of the British parliament’s vote on the Withdrawal Agreement Bill which will shine light on when and how Britain will exit the EU. The dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of other currencies, climb by 0.21% and ended at 97.53. LME base metals and SHFE complex mostly fell overnight. LME aluminium dropped 0.29% and SHFE aluminium grew 0.07%.
A rallied US dollar index depressed aluminium prices as three-month LME aluminium extended its previous decline and ended down 0.29% at US$1,719 per tonne. There is limited upward room in LME aluminium, which may trade between US$1,705-1,730 per tonne.

As on October 22, Tuesday, LME aluminium cash (bid) price stood at US$ 1707 per tonne, LME official settlement price stands at US$ 1707.50 per tonne; 3-months bid price stands at US$ 1716.50 per tonne, 3-months offer price is US$ 1717 per tonne; Dec 20 bid price stands at US$ 1800 per tonne, and Dec 20 offer price stands at US$ 1805 per tonne.
The LME aluminium opening stock dropped to 972475 tonnes. Live Warrants totalled at 794200 tonnes, and Cancelled Warrants were 178275 tonnes.
LME aluminium 3-months Asian Reference Price is hovering at US$ 1726 per tonne.
SHFE Aluminium Price Trend
Benchmark aluminium price for SHFE (Shanghai Future Exchange) has dropped to USD 1995 per tonne today, 23 October 2019.
The most traded SHFE 1912 contract recovered from Monday’s slide, returning above the five- and 10-day moving average to a high of RMB 13,830 per tonne during daytime trading hours, before it eased to close down 0.22% at RMB 13,795 per tonne yesterday. The December contract trimmed gains and closed slightly higher on the day at RMB 13,950 per tonne overnight. SHFE contract is likely to trade at RMB 13,740-13,840 per tonne today.
SHFE aluminium is likely to see greater volatility tonight, as traders weigh nearby robustness in consumption against supply pressure and waning cost support in the long term. The contract is expected to creep slightly higher tonight, while hovering around the five- and 10-day moving averages.
