US aluminium scrap exports in Aug'23 mark a M-o-M rise of 3.47% after two months of decline

The United States aluminium scrap exports in August 2023 recorded a month-on-month hike of 6,000 tonnes or 3.47 per cent to 179,000 tonnes, according to the US Census Bureau data. In July 2023, the export volume was 173,000 tonnes, down by 3.89 per cent from 180,000 tonnes in June. The downfall in July extended following a plunge in June by 8.16 per cent from 196,000 tonnes in May.

The above data thus indicates that the United States aluminium scrap exports grew in August after two consecutive months of fall to recover to the export volume in June.

On a year-on-year calculation, the United States aluminium scrap exports in August 2023 registered a very marginal rise of 1,000 tonnes, found USGS data. In the first eight months of 2023, the United States exported 1.39 million tonnes, up by 3.73 per cent from 1.34 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.

To India, the United States exported 45,200 tonnes of aluminium scrap in August 2023, which was 5.36 per cent more than 42,900 tonnes in July. The US aluminium scrap exports to India grew in August after two consecutive months of decline. In July, the export volume decreased by 7.93 per cent to 46,600 tonnes, followed by a drop of 3.13 per cent from 48,100 tonnes to 46,600 tonnes.

On an annual basis, the US aluminium scrap exports to India in August 2023 marked a rise of 1.95 per cent.

From January to August, the US aluminium scrap exports to India amounted to 319,000 tonnes – 1.59 per cent or 5,000 tonnes more than 314,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
