The United States imports of aluminium plates, sheets and bars from Canada stood flat in August 2020 at 18,300 tonnes, following an increase in July by 2,700 tonnes or 17.65 per cent from 15,3000 tonnes in June to 18,000 tonnes, according to the USGS data. The imports in June from Canada were also higher than the previous month by 6,430 tonnes or 72.49 per cent, as the imports in May were at 8,870 tonnes. In April, the US imported 7,970 tonnes of aluminium flat rolled products from Canada, meaning the imports in May saw M-o-M hike of 11.29 per cent.
Thus, the above data shows the United States aluminium plates, sheets and bars imports from Canada stood flat in August 2020 after three consecutive months of surge.
On a year-on-year calculation, the United States imports of aluminium flat rolled products from Canada in August 2020 were up by 8.28 per cent from 16,900 tonnes.
In the first eight months of the year, Canada’s aluminium flat rolled products exports to the US totalled 134,000 tonnes, up by 4.69 per cent from 128,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
The United States total aluminium plates, sheets and bars imports in August 2020 were 84,700 tonnes, flat compared with 84,300 tonnes in the month earlier and down by 26.35 per cent from 115,000 tonnes a year ago.
Canada was the biggest exporter of aluminium plates, sheets and bars to the US in August 2020, followed by China supplying 11,100 tonnes in the same month.
