
After a drop in August 2019, the United States aluminium plates, sheets and bars imports from Canada were found rebounded in September by about 8.28 per cent to 18,300 tonnes, according to the United States Geological Survey data. In August, the import amount was 16,900 tonnes after declining by 6.11 per cent from 18,000 tonnes in July. But since in June, the country had imported 16,500 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and bars from Canada, the import volume in July was a gain of 9.09 per cent.

In the entire four months during June-September, the United States aluminium plates, sheets and bars imports from Canada totalled at 69,700 tonnes, while its imports from Canada in the entire year up until September amounted to 146,000 tonnes. In the first nine months of 2018, US imports from Canada were 186,000 tonnes, which represents a decline of 27.39 per cent this year.
After Canada, Oman and Bahrain are the two leading suppliers of aluminium semis to the US. In September, the former exported 8,460 tonnes, while the latter 8,330 tonnes. And in the nine months of the year, they exported 68,600 tonnes and 57,200 tonnes, respectively, up from 41,600 tonnes and 44,700 tonnes during the same period last year.
