
The United States aluminium crude metal and alloys imports from Canada in December 2020 stood at 161,000 tonnes, reflecting an increase of 4,000 tonnes or 2.55 per cent month-on-month, found the US Geological Survey. Imports in November 2020 came in at 157,000 tonnes – 1 tonnes or 0.63 per cent less than 158,000 tonnes in October.

On a year-on-year calculation, the United States aluminium crude metal and alloys imports from Canada in December 2020 stood 31 per cent lower than 229,000 tonnes.
In the December quarter (Q4 2020), the United States aluminium crude metal and alloys imports totalled 476,000 tonnes, down by 15.30 per cent from 562,000 tonnes in Q3 2020.
In the entire year of 2020, the United States imported 2.3 million tonnes of aluminium crude metal and alloys from Canada compared to 2.1 million tonnes in 2019. This reflects a year-on-year increase of 9.52 per cent at the end of 2020.
The United States total aluminium crude metals and alloys imports in December 2020 hovered around 229,000 tonnes, down by 4.98 per cent month-on-month from 241,000 tonnes and 27.76 per cent year-on-year from 317,000 tonnes.
In the fourth quarter of 2020, the US imports came in at 701,000 tonnes, recording a quarter-on-quarter decline of 4.88 per cent from 737,000 tonnes. This brings the full-year imports to 3.27 million tonnes, down by 16.21 per cent from 3.80 million tonnes.
