
The United States’ alumina imports in the third quarter of 2022 deteriorated to return 445,000 tonnes, following a rise of 8.76 per cent in the previous quarter, found the US Census Bureau data. The import volume in Q1 was also at the same amount, followed by a sequential rise in Q2 to 484,000 tonnes.

However, on a year-on-year basis, the United States imports in Q3 gained 32.44 per cent compared to 336,000 tonnes.
From Q1 to Q3 of 2022, the United States total imports of alumina amounted to 1.37 million tonnes, up by 21.24 per cent from 1.13 million tonnes a year ago.
Brazil continued to be the top supplier in 3Q2022 despite a declining volume Q-o-Q. Compared to 367,000 tonnes in Q2, Brazil's alumina export to the US dwindled by 33.24 per cent sequentially to 245,000 tonnes. Annually, Brazil’s alumina exports to the US in Q3 increased by 5.15 per cent or 12,000 tonnes from 233,000 tonnes.
Australia was the second leading supplier in Q3, exporting 82,700 tonnes of alumina to the US, followed by 65,500 tonnes of import from other countries. The latter increased by 10.83 per cent over a quarter from 59,100 tonnes, while jumped by 133 per cent on the year from 28,100 tonnes.
