Domestic primary aluminium production in the United States in July 2021 stood at 73,000 tonnes, reflecting a month-on-month increase of only 1,000 tonnes but a year-on-year downfall of 9,000 tonnes from 82,000 tonnes, showed the US Census Bureau.
The average daily production in July 2021 was 2,350 tonnes, marginally less than 2,390 tonnes in June 2021. On a year-on-year basis, it plunged by 300 tonnes or 11.32 per cent from 2,650 tonnes.
Total aluminium recovered from scrap in July 2021 was 268,000 tonnes, 1,000 tonnes less than 269,000 tonnes in June 2021 but unchanged from July 2020. Of this, 141,000 tonnes of aluminium was recovered from new scrap and 127,000 tonnes recovered from old scrap.
In July 2021, the average US spot price of primary aluminium ingot was $1.44 per pound, 4.35 per cent more than $1.38 per pound in June 2021 and 70% higher than $0.85 per pound in July 2020.
Inventories of primary aluminium in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, in the United States decreased to 99,745 tonnes at the end of July 2021 from 110,133 tonnes at the end of June 2021. Inventories of secondary aluminium (North American Secondary Aluminium Alloy Contract) in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, in the United States declined to 10,904 tonnes at the end of July 2021 from 12,299 tonnes at the end of June 2021.
