Europe’s push for strategic raw material security is gaining momentum as Trimet Aluminium SE sharpens its circular economy model to reinforce regional aluminium supply chains. Amid rising geopolitical uncertainty and energy transition demands, the company is positioning recycled aluminium as a cornerstone of supply resilience, as part of its ongoing strategy to continue advancing the expansion of the circular economy in the aluminium industry.

The company confirmed that Trimet plans to expand its production of aluminium alloys for wired applications with recycled content. This initiative aligns with its broader strategy to deepen circularity in the aluminium sector, particularly as demand surges for aluminium wire made with recycled content across electrical, mechanical and welding applications.

While aluminium is infinitely recyclable without quality loss, the reality is complex. High-performance alloys require precise sorting, material separation and advanced process control to ensure the necessary material purity. To address this, Trimet has developed closed-loop material cycles based on concepts tailored to specific applications, enabling systematic scrap collection and recycling while maintaining constant quality standards. The company now intends to further expand this successful model.

“By expanding the circular economy in the aluminium industry, we are not only contributing to the achievement of climate protection goals, but we are also increasing material efficiency and supply security for an important industrial material in Europe,” said Philipp Schlüter, Chairman of the Executive Board of Trimet Aluminium SE.

These tailored closed-loop systems are integrated into existing recycling networks while engaging closely with customers and supported by specialised scrap partners. Integration with Trimet’s recycling sites in Germany improves operational stability and flexibility.

At its French sites in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and Castelsarrasin, Trimet produces around 100,000 tonnes of wire rod annually, serving the energy, automotive, transport, medical and aerospace sectors.
