The historic boss of Aluminum du Maroc gives way to his brother Mohamed Alami. The decision was formalized at the Board of Directors and the ordinary general meeting held on 29th June’20.
This has made an end of a long series of power struggles within the governing bodies of Aluminum du Maroc. Historical CEO of the firm, challenged by the dynasty brother Mohamed Alami for the diversification strategy he led in real estate and tourism, Abdelouahed Alami finally resigns as CEO.
It is, therefore, the end of a long adventure for this mythical figure that made Aluminum du Maroc one of the industrial jewels of the country and the supplement of a power struggle that has lasted since 2016.
"All of this is behind us," says Abdeslam Alami, son of the new CEO, who was behind the sling against his uncle Do because of his positions on the group's strategy. “These decisions were taken in full concentration. And the Board of Directors and the General Assembly were held in a good atmosphere. There was not the slightest shock or conflict”, he assures.
Mr Abdelouahed Alami does not permanently leave the company since he was appointed Honorary Chairman of the Board of Directors and also remains a director of the group.
Abdeslam Alami was appointed Vice-President, along with Sharif Alami, son of Abdelouahed Alami, who was kept in his position in a sort of balance of power between siblings. Abdeslam Alami was also co-opted in as an administrator, replacing Ahmed Rahhou, the former patron of the CIH, currently ambassador of Morocco to the European Union.
In alignment with these changes, the head of Aluminum du Maroc, the Board of Directors has confirmed other decisions relating to the governance of the group.
Fixed at 11, the number of seats on the Board has been increased to 15, with the co-optation of new independent directors.

The Board also decided to set up an executive committee, composed of the two vice-presidents and the deputy managing director, Benoit Vaillant, who was confirmed in his position.
