The optimism that still prevailed among suppliers of aluminium packaging at the end of the first quarter has all but evaporated in favour of disillusionment. Beverage can producers in particular are dissatisfied with the second quarter. Producers of tubes and aerosols are a little more conciliatory since at least demand is passable in both these segments, but the rising cost pressure is testing their strength.
