Aluminium is making interesting contributions to the building and construction sector from the cosmetic and structural sides. Recently, a Swedish architect Förstberg Ling finished design and construction of a stylish residence and studio in the suburbs of Linköping in Sweden.
The exceptional building was built for Maria, a librarian and enthusiastic weaver, who is the mother of the studio's lead architect Björn Förstberg. Called 'House for mother', the home is wrapped in a sturdy corrugated aluminium cover that hides the cosy and well-organized interiors.
Basically, ‘House for mother’ is made from two adjacent cabins. One of the cabins forms a home and the other a studio. Both are smartly shifted from each other to make the most out of a small plot of land. All exterior walls and the gable roofs are wrapped completely in corrugated aluminium, a sturdy, non-corrosive, weather proof and durable construction material despite its light weight. Another quality that makes the construction material a winner is its recyclability and as it reflects daylight it makes the house shine giving it an exclusive look.

Although its undulated skin gives it a cold and flat appearance, the interior is cosy and soft because of the warm colours and natural materials used in the designing. Both the cabins are joined in the interior with a thick coat of white paint over the walls. The simple and structured look of the residence is balanced with the use of warm, textured materials like cork, wool and plywood for the walls and the interiors. ‘House for mother’ is a part of the housing exhibition taking place in Linköping. This is the first house project by the Malmö-based architect Förstberg Ling.
