We have covered in our earlier news reports how China is focussing on the automotive sector for enhancing their manufacturing sector and boost consumption of aluminium and steel. EVs are going to play a very significant role in driving the automotive growth.

As reported by Shanghai Metals Market, Suzhou Economic and Information Technology Commission published a notice on May 11 announcing that Suzhou city in Jiangsu province plans to promote the sale of 9,000 new-energy vehicles (NEVs) in 2018. The province will also build 2,245 new charging points in 2018. The promotion target was distributed to local districts including Zhangjiagang, Changshu, and Kunshan.
Data from the commission shows a total of 4,561 NEVs and 2,259 charging points in Suzhou were submitted for provincial subsidies. SMM said these numbers were less than the 2017 target of 7,200 NEVs and 2,600 charging points.
The Jiangxi government also plans to expand its annual capacity of NEVs to 500,000 units by 2020 with operating revenues of RMB 50 billion. Some 260 charging stations with 100,000 charging points will be built to cater to the increasing number of NEVs.
China is going withdraw tax exemptions on purchases of 319 models of new-energy vehicles (NEVs), as no productions or imports of these vehicles were seen till the end of April 2018. This move will further benefit the automakers by encouraging production of the latest NEVs and boosting the NEV market in China.
