Over the next few years, there will be a steady global aluminium demand for making beverage cans, suggests a new industry report. As per the forecast, the global beverage can market will reach USD 43.37 billion by 2029. The sector, currently valued at USD 33.64 billion, is expected to edge up to USD 34.84 billion in 2025, maintaining the measured growth seen in recent years at a 3.6 per cent CAGR.

Analysts say that the foundations for this rise were laid in the past decade. For quite some time, aluminium can manufacturers have been swapping glass for cans and companies remain focused on recycling, sustainability and cost-effective production. With consumers leaning more towards convenient packaging, aluminium can manufacturers are embracing sustainable packaging solutions to capture strong brand visibility and fuel demand.

While the industry has grown at a steady growth so far, the report predicts a quicker pace ahead with a 5.6 per cent CAGR through to 2029. This next phase is expected to be influenced by many factors, which include the global shift towards health-driven products, the expansion of e-commerce, an influx of non-alcoholic drinks, better manufacturing materials and techniques, and improving economic conditions worldwide.
The study highlights a range of developments likely to define the coming years. More environmentally friendly packaging options, reimagined can designs, lighter structures, functional features, and advances in digital printing and labelling are all anticipated to reshape the market. Strengthening supply chains is also going to be the major priority for the products, which is also expected to be a major priority for producers.

Aluminium cans, especially common for beer, remain attractive always, thanks to their recyclability, low weight, ease of transport, and efficient storage. In fact, the steep rise in beverage consumption significantly increases the demand for cans.
The report refers to the World Population Review’s Soda Consumption by Country 2023 data. As per the current statistics, Argentina tops global soft-drink intake at 155 litres per person annually, closely followed by the United States at 154 litres.
However, innovation in product design is becoming the main factor among major aluminium can manufacturers. One example highlighted in the report is Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP), which introduced a 19.2-ounce can in January 2023. Designed to sit between the well-known 16-ounce and 24-ounce formats, the newly designed size will support the expanding single-serve market and give brands enough room to explore categories like water, cider, hard seltzer and beer.
The study concludes that this mix of consumption growth, technological progress and sustainability trends will continue to steer the global beverage can industry as it approaches the end of the decade.
