The City is thrilled to unveil the newly completed public facilities at St Leonard's Foreshore, made possible through generous funding from the Australian Government's Community Development Grants Programme (CDG). The new furniture is crafted from recycled aluminium engineered to endure the rigorous coastal conditions of St Leonards.
These new additions are specifically crafted to foster inclusivity, ensuring that individuals of all abilities can fully embrace the breathtaking coastal ambience. This marine-grade furniture exemplifies a sustainable ethos, perfectly aligned with the City of Greater Geelong's dedication to reducing waste generation and promoting enduring waste management solutions.
On a momentous occasion, Federal Member for Corangamite, Libby Coker MP, and Mayor Trent Sullivan jointly inaugurated the upgraded foreshore facilities today. The event was marked by a vibrant community BBQ, bringing together residents and visitors to celebrate this milestone.
"These new facilities will ensure the foreshore park becomes a vibrant hub for community gatherings, leisure and relaxation. The new facilities feature an open plan pavilion with a barbeque, beach showers, and CCTV cameras for improved community safety in this cherished space. I'd like to congratulate the St Leonards Beautification Committee, Bellarine Bayside Coastal Management, and all members of the St Leonards community for their advocacy and continued involvement throughout the development process," said Federal Member for Corangamite Libby Coker MP.
Valued at $430,000, this project substantially enhances the coastal area, enriching the outdoor experience for all who visit. The revitalized St Leonards Foreshore now features an array of amenities geared towards improving accessibility and fostering community enjoyment.
"St Leonards is a key tourism area for Greater Geelong with strong overnight and day trip visitation. I'm very excited to announce the completion of the St Leonards Foreshore project. A significant part of St Leonards' economy is supported by tourists and visitors, with the overnight population tripling on peak holiday nights. The St Leonards Foreshore Beautification project will undoubtedly elevate the recreational experience for our community and visitors alike. The project, made possible through the generous funding from the Australian Government, reflects our commitment to creating inclusive, environmentally conscious public spaces," added Mayor Trent Sullivan.
The revitalization of St Leonards Foreshore has indeed metamorphosed it into a more inclusive and lively community hub, serving as a destination that not only celebrates our coastal environment but also ensures universal access to the beauty of St Leonards. Using recycled aluminium for the newly installed street furniture is a laudable stride towards sustainability. Not only does it bolster the resilience of the facilities, but it also showcases a mindful stance toward environmental preservation. Witnessing such eco-conscious solutions integrated into the evolution of public spaces is genuinely inspiring.
