Swisstek Aluminium Ltd. has earned the respectable ISO 50001:2018 certification for its Energy Management System (EnMS) by Sri Lanka Standards Institute, making it the first enterprise in the country’s industrial history to secure such an honour.
Founded in 2019, Swisstek Aluminium, a subsidiary of Lanka Walltiles PLC, which enlists itself under the renowned Vallibel One PLC Group, has earned country-wide recognition as a frontrunner in eco-friendly production of anodised, mill-finished and powder-coated aluminium extrusions in Sri Lanka. The company is extremely committed to manufacturing innovative, high-quality, specialised aluminium products.
Swisstek Aluminium can be regarded as one of the biggest aluminium profile suppliers in Sri Lanka. The company has always harboured safe and strict practices following the standards of the metal industry. But being ISO 50001:2018 certified is a big step for the company, ensuring it a grand future by augmenting business and industrial trust.
In 2011, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) introduced a standard protocol under the ISO 50001 tag, which proposed uniformity in the process of implementation, maintenance and improvement of the energy management system (EnMS). The laid parameters are cherished by institutions that struggle to fully optimise their energy resources and energy-related assets, which in turn results in increased energy consumption and aggravating costs.
ISO 50001 (EnMS) is internationally accepted as an adequately managed solution to widely spread energy issues, and as per experts, it is thought to slash global energy usage by a hefty 60%. Taking into account the prevailing energy crisis in Sri Lanka, Swisstek Aluminium has efficiently applied its ordinary sense as a corporate body by imposing and maintaining energy systems that adhere to the 2018 standards of ISO 50001.
The CEO of Swisstek Aluminium, Tharindu Atapattu, while talking about the ISO 50001:2018 certification, exclaimed: “A key pillar of our success in the industry is our commitment to ethical and responsible business conduct with much emphasis on people and planet. Therefore, receiving the ISO 50001:2018 is a significant achievement for us, and the credit for this should definitely go to the passionate team behind it. As we continuously set the benchmark for the industry, I must say that we are proud to be the first in the industry to receive this certification.”
Swisstek Aluminium, for an extended period, has made considerable investments to develop a sustainable energy management system, which can be justified by the company’s current contribution of INR 156.5 million to install a solar energy system of 3,340 photovoltaic panels. The organisation has successfully streamlined growth opportunities for the foreseeable future by imposing such rigid and sustainable configurations in its facilities.
