South Korea's imports of aluminium scrap from the US up 19% in October; Imports rise 7% in Jan-Oct

South Korea's imports of aluminium scrap from the US stood at 28,500 tonnes in October 2020, with a year-on-year increase of 18.75%. South Korea had imported 24,000 tonnes in October 2019. On a monthly basis, imports rose by 17.77% from 24,200 tonnes in September 2020, as updated by the US Census Bureau.

In the first ten months of 2020, South Korea imported 243,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap, from 227,000 tonnes imported in the first ten months of 2019. This marked an increase of 7.05% year-on-year.

South Korea's imports of total aluminium (semi-finished products, crude metals and alloy and scrap) from the US came in at 29,500 tonnes in October 2020, a increase of 13% from 26,100 tonnes in October 2019. Imports stood 15.69% higher from September’s imports of 25,500 tonnes.

In January-October, total imports came in at 261,000 tonnes, from 251,000 tonnes imported in January-October 2019, marking an increase of 3.98% year-on-year.

On the export side, South Korea exported 2,370 tonnes and 36,800 tonnes of total aluminium to the US in October and January-October 2020, from 4,340 tonnes and 55,100 tonnes exported in October 2019 and January-October 2019.
