SMM alumina price closes the week with a surge of RMB13/t; China’s A00 aluminium ingot price hikes by RMB130/t

According to the Shanghai Metal Market (SMM), alumina price has surged by RMB 13 per tonne, averaging at RMB 4,006 per tonne as of 20th September. This brings the price higher by RMB 99 per tonne in one month from RMB 3,907 per tonne. The price has increased in almost all the key regions. Like in Guanxi, the average price reached RMB 3,990 per tonne, up by RMB 25 per tonne from the previous day. Shandong and Guizhou regions experienced price hikes of RMB 20 per tonne to officially close at RMB 3,980 per tonne and RMB 3,995 per tonne, respectively. Also, in Henan and Shanxi, the price has improved slightly by RMB 5 per tonne and RMB 15 per tonne. This brings the average price to RMB 4,015 per tonne in Henan and RMB 4,030 per tonne in Shanxi.

Meanwhile, the aluminium ingot price on the Shanghai Metal Market (SMM) ascended by RMB 130 per tonne to balance the market condition. The current average price is RMB 19,960 per tonne, within a range of RMB 19,940 per tonne to RMB 19,980 per tonne. The spot contract is likely to be traded at a discounted price of RMB 80 per tonne to RMB 40 per tonne, with an average of RMB 60 per tonne.

The average price of low-carbon aluminium has also risen up by RMB 107 per tonne to RMB 20,775 per tonne, while the average prices for high-purity aluminium (99.99% and 99.996%) finally surged after one week by RMB 200 per tonne to reach at RMB 27,000 per tonne for 99.99% purity and RMB 28,000 per tonne for 99.996% purity.

Regional Analysis:

The average A00 aluminium ingot price has seen variations across all the provinces of China. The highest increase was observed in Tianjin province, with a rise of RMB 180 per tonne, averaging at RMB 19,960 per tonne. In Chongqing and Shenyang provinces, the price increased by RMB 140 per tonne, reaching RMB 19,900 per tonne and RMB 19,880 per tonne, respectively. Similarly, in provinces like Hangzhou and Linyi, the prices surged by RMB 130 per tonne, reaching RMB 19,960 per tonne and RMB 19,910 per tonne. In Foshan and Wuxi, the prices gained RMB 120 per tonne, reaching RMB 19,820 per tonne and RMB 19,950 per tonne. In Gongyi province, the price soared by RMB 90 per tonne, pegging at RMB 19,850 per tonne. These regional variations in price changes provide a comprehensive understanding of the market conditions in different areas.

Other prices:

The imported and domestic bauxite prices remain unchanged at US$ 76.61 per tonne and RMB 640 per tonne, respectively. With the price increase in the aluminium ingot market, the recent alumina price increase for one consecutive week might impact the future pricing of aluminium products.

Aluminium alloy ingot:

Aluminium alloys ingot (ADC12) prices have changed in all the regions except for southwest areas, the price has escalated by RMB 100 per tonne in east, south and northeast regions, officially standing at RMB 20,550 per tonne in both east and south region regions and RMB 20,500 per tonne in northeast region, fluctuating between RMB 20,450 per tonne to RMB 20,650 per tonne for east and south region and from 20,400 per tonne to RMB 20,600 per tonne for northeast region. Aluminium alloy (A356), alloy (A360), alloy (A380) ingot price has also increased by RMB 100 per tonne to clock at RMB 20,400 per tonne, RMB 20,650 per tonne and RMB 21,550 per tonne respectively. The average price is ranging between RMB 20,200 per tonne to RMB 20,600 per tonne for (A356), RMB 20,550 per tonne to RMB 20,750 per tonne for (A360) and RMB 21450 per tonne to RMB 21650 per tonne for (A380).
