SDK completes expansion of high-purity aluminum foil plant in China

Showa Denko has completed construction work to expand its capacity in China to produce high-purity aluminum foil, which is a major material for aluminum electrolytic capacitors. The expanded plant went into quantity production this April.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are used in wide areas such as electric appliances, IT devices, electric vehicles, hybrid cars and equipment for power generation utilizing renewable energy sources. Especially in China, the demand for medium- and high-voltage electrolytic capacitors is expected to increase in applications including power conditioners for environment friendly cars and solar power generation.

Showa Denko Aluminum (Nantong) Co., Ltd. (SDAN), a consolidated subsidiary of SDK, has been conducting final processing of rolled aluminum foil as intermediate product supplied from SDK's Sakai Plant, functioning as a base to provide our customers in China with high-purity aluminum foil for high-voltage use* in a timely manner. Since the establishment of SDAN in October 2013, the Chinese market for high-purity aluminum foil for high-voltage use* has been continuously expanding. Through the expansion work completed this time, SDAN's capacity to produce high-purity aluminum foil has been increased from 400 tons to 600 tons per month.

* Electrolytic foil made from 99.99% purity of aluminum or higher. It has a withstanding voltage of 200V or higher.
